A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website you visit. It lets that site recognise your browser on a later request — which is what makes staying signed in, or keeping a preference between visits, possible at all.

These help us count visits, see which pages are read and where readers arrive from, and find the pages that are failing them. We look at this data in aggregate; it is not used to identify you individually.

Analytics cookies are not essential, and we set them only where you have agreed to them. Declining them changes nothing about the Service you receive.

Some cookies are set by the providers whose tools are embedded in Service rather than by us. Our payment processor sets cookies during checkout to detect fraud and complete a transaction; embedded content such as ratings, status widgets or videos may set its own when it loads.
